Editorial policy

Sourcing

Every story is based on public reporting, official statements, government publications or published data. Each article links to the original coverage so readers can check it. We write in our own words and do not reproduce another outlet's sentences.

Figures

Where an article gives an amount, a threshold or a date, it comes from the source named in the piece. If a figure is disputed or an estimate, we say so. We do not invent numbers to make a story land harder.

Attribution of claims

Claims made by politicians, companies and campaign groups are attributed to whoever made them. A claim reported in this way is not an endorsement of it.

Photographs

Article photographs come from the publisher of the original report and are credited beneath the image. If you own an image and want it removed, email hello@wakeupnews.uk and we will take it down.

Corrections

We correct errors of fact promptly and note the correction on the article. Requests go to hello@wakeupnews.uk.

Independence and advertising

Wake Up News is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no influence over what we cover or how we cover it. Advertising is labelled and kept separate from editorial content.

Use of technology

We use software to monitor public news feeds and to help draft articles from sourced material. Every published article is checked against its source for accuracy before it goes live.
