Every story is based on public reporting, official statements, government publications or published data. Where more than one outlet has covered a story we compare their reports, and where an official page exists (GOV.UK, a regulator, Citizens Advice, the NHS) we link to it so readers can act on it. Each article ends with a Sources list. We write in our own words and do not reproduce another outlet's sentences.
Articles are published under the Wake Up News Desk byline. The desk is responsible for every story on the site, for checking it against its sources and for correcting it when something is wrong.
Where an article gives an amount, a threshold or a date, it comes from the sources listed with the piece. Every figure is checked against those sources before publication. If a figure is disputed or an estimate, we say so. We do not invent numbers to make a story land harder.
Claims made by politicians, companies and campaign groups are attributed to whoever made them. A claim reported in this way is not an endorsement of it.
We do not use photographs taken from other news outlets. Article images are either our own graphics or photographs from Wikimedia Commons that are in the public domain or published under a Creative Commons licence, credited beneath the image with the author and licence. If you believe an image is credited wrongly, email hello@wakeupnews.uk and we will correct or remove it.
We correct errors of fact promptly and note the correction on the article. Requests go to hello@wakeupnews.uk.
Wake Up News is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no influence over what we cover or how we cover it. Advertising is labelled and kept separate from editorial content.
